Polyaspartic garage floors in Sarasota
SRQ Garage Floors is a guide run by Terragroupe, LLC. We do not install anything and we are not booking jobs yet.
Polyaspartic is a fast-curing coating, sold mostly as a clear topcoat. It cures in hours instead of days on the maker sheets we read, but most claims about it come from sellers. The condition of your slab helps you decide if you need it or if epoxy fits.

When the floor is ready for feet and cars
Polyaspartic returns to service sooner than epoxy on the sheets we read. The Sikafloor-515 topcoat sheet (June 2021 version) lists foot traffic after about 4 hours1 at 68 F and full cure after about 5 days1. A garage-market base coat, ArmorPoly 80, lists vehicle traffic after 24 hours2 at 72 F and 50% humidity.
| Product and test conditions | Foot traffic or tack-free | Light traffic or vehicles | Full cure | Recoat window | Humidity and dew point |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sikafloor-515 topcoat, 68 F | about 4 hours1 | about 8 hours1 | about 5 days1 | about 90 minutes minimum, about 24 hours maximum1 | 75% humidity at most; slab at least 5 F above dew point1 |
| ArmorPoly 80 base, 72 F, 50% RH | 2 to 4 hours2 | after 24 hours2 | Not read yet | 2 to 12 hours2 | Not read yet |
These are the makers' figures (vendor data), from different products. They are not a head-to-head test, and temperature and humidity move them. Put the wait for cars in hours in your written scope.
What polyaspartic is, and what is only a sales claim
Polyaspartic is a resin coating that makers sell for garages and showrooms. Sika's data sheet describes it as a clear topcoat for a quartz or flake system 1. It says only experienced professionals may use it 1.
The same sheet advertises resistance to hot-tire marks and to sun damage 1. We found no independent test of either claim, so treat both as the maker's words.
Sellers also use the word polyurea for similar coatings. Ask which one is in your quote, and read its data sheet.
What the cure sheets say
At 68 F, Sika's polyaspartic topcoat takes foot traffic after about 4 hours 1. Light traffic comes after about 8 hours 1. Full cure takes about 5 days 1. A garage-market polyaspartic base coat sheet says vehicles can return after 24 hours at 72 F and 50% humidity 2.
For comparison, a Sika epoxy sheet lists foot traffic after about a day at 68 F 3. These come from different makers and different products. They are not a head-to-head test.
Real garages vary with heat, humidity and thickness. Get the cure time for your floor in writing.
Why the job day matters more here
A fast cure means a short working time. Sika lists about 15 minutes of working time at 68 F 1. At 86 F it drops to about 10 minutes 1. There is little room to fix a mistake, which is why the sheet says experienced professionals only.
The sheet sets conditions. The slab must be at least 5 F above the dew point 1. Humidity must sit between 30% and 75% 1. Concrete moisture must be 4% or less on a Tramex type meter 1. The sheet also calls for shot-blasting the slab to a rough profile called CSP 3 to 4 1.
Humid air and a damp slab are the usual worries in a Florida wet season. Ask how the installer checks both on the day.

Questions to ask before you pay extra
Price guides list polyaspartic in a range that overlaps epoxy. Before you pay more for it, ask these:
- Is polyaspartic the base coat, the topcoat or the whole system?
- Which data sheet applies, and may I read it?
- How is the slab tested for moisture, and what reading is too high for this product?
- What happens if the weather turns on the job day?
- What does the warranty leave out?
What polyaspartic costs
A kit seller (a vendor) estimates 7 USD per sq ft4 to 12 USD per sq ft4. We found no recent independent guide that prices polyaspartic per square foot, so this is the only polyaspartic rate shown.
This is a national range, and we hold no Sarasota quotes. Try the Garage Floor Price Estimator or read the cost guide.
A slab that needs heavy prep or a moisture plan costs more under any system.
What to ask for in the scope
Ask for the products by name, each coat and its thickness, the cure time before cars return, and the warranty exclusions. A workmanship term is listed here once an installer signs on.
From photos to a written scope
The slab gets read first. The product comes after.
- Photograph the slab. Show the whole floor, any cracks, old paint or coating, oil stains and signs that water has been in the garage. Note if the garage stays damp in the wet season.
- Read the signs. They hint at whether the floor needs a moisture test, crack repair or old coating removal before any product is named. A sound floor may not need a coating yet.
- Ask for the written scope. It should name the prep, the moisture test, the system, the cure time and the price. It should also list what the warranty leaves out. Nothing should start until you say yes.
- Hear when an installer is available. We are not booking jobs yet. If you tell us about your project, we will let you know when a local installer is available. Ask that installer for photos of the floor after prep and at the end.

Questions people ask
Is polyaspartic better than epoxy?
Sellers say yes on cure speed, hot-tire marks and sun. Cure speed shows up on the maker sheets we read. We found no independent test for the other claims. The right pick depends on your slab, your schedule and the warranty.
Can polyaspartic go over a damp slab?
Not by the maker sheet we read. It calls for concrete moisture of 4% or less 1. A damp slab needs a moisture plan first, and a coating is not flood protection.
Can I put down polyaspartic myself?
The Sika sheet says experienced professionals only 1. The short working time is one reason. A kit may give you more time, so read its sheet before you decide.
